As Jewish students who witness antisemitism on campus and depend on the authority of the federal government to assess the legal implications of our experiences, we are deeply appreciative of the bipartisan, bicameral call to address the backlog of investigations into campus antisemitism at the Department of Education. Our organization is grateful to have partnered with many of your offices to highlight the seriousness of this issue, and we are glad to see that urgency reflected in this letter.
President Biden’s National Strategy to Counter Antisemitism utilizes a whole-of-society approach to address the hate our community faces. Key to that effort is a reliable mechanism at the Department of Education for students who experience antisemitism to utilize. Stronger standards for measuring hate on campuses, particularly antisemitism, will benefit all students.
For those reasons, we look forward to the Department of Education’s response to your inquiry and as ambassadors of the American Jewish student experience, we stand ready to continue partnering together to make our campus communities safe, welcoming and vibrant.
